Frequently Asked Questions
The Harbor Center is a community-driven initiative to create a shared campus where people of all ages can learn, celebrate, gather, explore, and thrive. It brings together vital community spaces — including a senior center, event and meeting spaces, community rooms, an environmental learning center, outdoor spaces, and protected lands — into a unified, welcoming destination for the greater Gig Harbor community.
Rooted in the values of stewardship, connection, and belonging, the Center is designed to support the Peninsula’s people, natural environment, and future generations.
Since 2000, Gig Harbor has experienced a significant increase in its senior population, with residents aged 65 and older rising by nearly 86%. The Gig Harbor Senior Center has strived to address the changing needs of this growing population; yet, it has done so from a shared, multi-purpose space since 2019. At the same time, the community lacks flexible, accessible spaces to connect, learn, and collaborate —with nature and one another.
The new Center will:
Support older adults through a modern purpose-built senior center
Expand access to lifelong learning
Provide flexible gathering spaces for events and community activities
Create a home for environmental education and stewardship programs
Protect and showcase important natural landscapes
Strengthen local nonprofits and partnerships
Harbor Center is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build a meaningful, lasting community asset.
